متن کاملTheory of Strains in Auxetic Materials
This paper is dedicated to Prof. Jacques Friedel, an inspirational scientist and a great man. His excellence and clear vision led to significant advances in theoretical physics, which spilled into material science and technological applications. His fundamental theoretical work on commonplace materials has become classic. We can think of no better tribute to Friedel than to apply a fundamental ...
متن کاملProgress towards Molecular - Level Auxetic Materials
Man-made and natural auxetic materials and structures exist from the molecularto the microand macroscales, and cover the major classes of materials (metals, ceramics, polymers and composites). There is now considerable interest in the development of these novel materials due to their counter-intuitive behaviour and also because of their potential in applications where the auxetic property itsel...
متن کاملNano- and Micro-Auxetic Plasmonic Materials.
Plasmonic nanostructures with a negative Poisson ratio are demonstrated, having the unusual mechanical property of auxetics to expand laterally when being stretched. Using nanomembrane technology, auxetics are shrunk by orders of magnitude, giving simultaneous access to optical properties of plasmonic metamaterials, as well as auxetic mechanical properties on the nanoscale.
